Delhi Assembly passes resolution to roll back excise duty levied on jewelers

Chandigarh, March 29, 2016: As per the assurance given to the delegation of jewelers from Punjab that met Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday regarding roll back of excise duty levied on jewelers by Narinder Modi lead the centre government, Delhi Assembly today passed a resolution to oppose the move of centre government.

A delegation of jewelers from Punjab accompanied by AAP leaders, Durgesh Pathak, Aman Arora and Jassi Sekhon had met Arvind Kejriwal and requested him to put up their case to roll back the excise duty levied on jewelers.

Today, Aam Aadmi Party MLA and Chief Whip Jagdeep Singh moved the resolution in Delhi assembly to roll back the decision to impose 1% excise duty on non-silver jewellery that was supported by the other members of the assembly.

The assembly passed the following resolution, “That this House, having understood the hardships being faced by both the jewelers and prospective customers in the wake of recent proposal in the Union Budget to impose 1% excise duty on non-silver jewellery, resolves that such a move is detrimental to the interest of all concerned and urges upon the Prime Minister of India to direct the Union Finance Minister to immediately roll back the proposed excise duty”.

Aam Aadmi Party Jewelers Association, Punjab President Anand Seekri, Parmod Mittal, Ravikamal Goyal, Gulshan Verma ‘Rinku’, Surinder Singh Ludhiana and other members expressed gratitude to the Delhi Assembly and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for standing by them.
