Chandigarh, The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association London has chosen the agrarian state Punjab to host its prestigious workshop of Parliamentary Agriculture Committees from October 29 to October 31, recognizing the contribution of Punjab in making india self sufficient on food security front.
Reviewing the arrangements for the prestigious international conference in which delegates from six countries and other south Asian countries, lok sabha speaker and speakers from all the states besides agriculture experts from various countries would participate, the Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Mr. Charnjit Singh Atwal today chaired a high level meeting to review the preparedness of the conference. Dr. Atwal informed that Parliament Speaker had recommended the name of Punjab Chapter of CPA to organize this event. He said that the Greenwich University of United Kingdom will be the co-host of the event.
Presiding over the meeting attended by Punjab Finance Minister Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Agriculture Minister Mr. Tota Singh, PWD Minister Mr. Janmeja Singh Sekhon and Transport Minister Mr. Ajit Singh Kohar along senior officer, Dr. Atwal said delegates from commonwealth countries would be participated in this mega workshop. He informed that the aim of hosting this mega workshop was to give a big push to parliamentary agriculture committees besides strengthening those vis-à-vis holding discussions and debate on current issues pertaining to peasantries and agriculture. He said capacity building in the area of agriculture amongst parliamentarians will also be an issue during this three days workshop.
Dr. Atwal informed the meeting that the delegates from india union, from CPA branches of two states, Asia/South Asia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Malaysia and Singapore would participate. He said that they would share their experience in the agriculture sector besides possibilities of agri-growth in their respective regions.
Reviewing the status of proposed arrangements, Dr. Atwal gave necessary directions to UT Administration and various departments including Agriculture, Finance, Home, Transport, Health, PWD, Public Relations, Tourism and Cultural Affairs and Director Hospitality to make sure the necessary and requisite arrangements. This is for the first time that this conference is being organised in north India.
