Chandigarh, August 29: It had been in the air for a long time but the countdown for the immediate suspension of Aam Aadmi Party MPs Dr Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa started today when they joined the stage of the party rebels who had organised a parallel political conference at Baba Bakala on the occasion of Rakhar Punnia. Giving them company was artist Rabbi Shergil.

Significantly, both Dr Gandhi and Khalsa have been attacked for playing into the hands of the Akali Dal-BJP alliance.

AAP stated in its tweets, “Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa have joined hands with the corrupt BJP-SAD leaders in Punjab and have betrayed the faith of the common man. They used pictures of Arvind Kejriwal and party MPs Bhagwant Mann and Sadhu Singh to create confusion and help Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP. They used party symbol and pictures of party leaders in the publicity material of their conference without due permission from the party.”

Ironically, whenever any leader revolted from the Akali Dal including party stalwart Gurcharan Singh Tohra and Manpreet Singh Badal, Parkash Singh Badal’s major offensive would be that they were the Congress stooges. AAP seems to have adopted the same perverted logic, consciously or unconsciously with the Congress having been replaced by the Akali Dal-BJP alliance.

Two other MPs Bhagwant Mann and Prof Sadhu Singh joined the official party conference some distance away where party’s Punjab incharge Sanjay Singh was also present along with state president Sucha Singh Chhotepur.

The two MPs attacked the party and its chief Arvind Kejriwal saying the leadership had digressed from its agenda with the personality dominating. Dr Gandhi had made his dissent public the very day the party had taken action against two of its founder members Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan. Dr Gandhi’s career as social-cum-political activists goes back to his student life.

The party announced their suspension within hours in Delhi and referred their case to its national disciplinary action committee.

The decision was taken by party’s Political Affairs Committee after they publicly spoke against the leadership.

A press release issued by the party said, “In its meeting on 29 August, 2015, the PAC took cognizance of anti-party activities indulged in by Dharamavira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa in Punjab. In a unanimous decision, the PAC suspended Khalsa and Gandhi from the party and referred their cases to the National Disciplinary Action Committee. Now the three-member National Disciplinary Action Committee, with Pankaj Gupta, Dilip Pandey and Deepak Bajpai as its members, will look into the complaints of anti-party activities and indiscipline against Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa.”
