Congress to enact law against drug money if voted to power : Rahul Gandhi

Rahul-ghandiJalandhar,Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today promised to bring law to recover drug money if voted to power in Punjab in the February, 2017 Assembly elections in the state. He also assured that the menace of drugs would be eradicated within a month of forming the government.

He was here to participate in Congress dharna against drugs and corruption.

Addressing the dharna, Rahul attacked the Akali Dal government in the state for drug problem and recalled that a lot of hue and cry had been raised when he raked up this issue four years ago. The Akalis had attacked him for maligning Punjab but he had been proved right.

He asserted the people of Punjab had earlier defeated the designs of the terrorists and now with Congress in the lead, they would wipe out this scourge from the face of this state.

Rahul accused the ruling Akali leaders of playing with the future of the state by patronizing drug smugglers. Punjab would not move forward so long as this state was in the grip of drugs. He said on the one hand, the ruling Akali Dal and the BJP went to the extent of banning the film Udta Punjab while on the other hand, they were not even admitting that the state suffered from this disease.

Referring to the suicides by the farmers in Punjab, the Congress vice-president that certain political parties and leaders made a fun of him when he launched campaign from Bhatta Parsol to protect the interests of the farmers. He announced that the Congress would continue this fight.

He talked of shaping better future for Punjabis and restoring law of the land.

State party chief Capt. Amarinder Singh focused on suicides by the farmers and deteriorating law and order. He referred to the shocking incident of a lineman who was today beaten to death. He drescribed it as a goonda raj and the situation was unprecedented.

He said almost every village in Amritsar was in the grip of drugs.
