Congress expels Jagmeet now

Chandigarh/New Delhi, Two days after expelling former Punjab Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder for anti-party activities, the Congress today showed former MP Jagmeet Brar the door, saying he had crossed all limits of party discipline.
“He was consistently speaking against our Punjab leaders, undermining the morale of the party rank and file. He has been expelled from the primary membership of the Congress,” party general secretary (Punjab) Shakeel Ahmad told The Tribune after tweeting the decision and emailing a copy of the expulsion order to Brar.
Privately, top Congress sources said they had credible information of Brar’s imminent exit and his possible entry into AAP at the April 13 Baisakhi congregation at Talwandi Sabo. The party was cut up with Brar for “constantly glorifying AAP” since January 14 when he first praised AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s show of strength at the Muktsar Maghi Mela.
Although Brar, a former Lok Sabha member from Faridkot (he had defeated Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal in 1999), claimed that he had been “condemned without hearing”, his expulsion letter reveals he was issued a show-cause notice on March 29 and he responded on March 30.
In the March 29 letter, Ahmad warned Brar against “glorifying AAP” and reminded him of the promise he had made to the leadership last August when he was taken back into the party after being initially suspended.
“You were brought back on the condition that you will work selflessly for the party,” the letter says.
But Brar persisted with his routine praises of AAP starting January 14 and equally targeting Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh. A Congress leader said Brar had earlier complained about Amarinder saying, “Capt doesn’t even care for senior leaders. He promised to have tea at my house and didn’t turn up.”
Brar had rejoined the Congress on August 8, 2015 after being suspended for making anti-Sonia and Rahul Gandhi statements post the party’s Lok Sabha poll debacle.
Back, he again started ruffling feathers when after the Maghi Mela in January, he tweeted praises of AAP. In his explanation, he defended his stand saying his statements were “in the best interests of the Congress”.
Capt Amarinder had day before yesterday recommended Brar’s expulsion. It is learnt that Brar had been eyeing the RS nomination from Punjab but the slots went to SS Dullo and Partap Bajwa.
I exposed the nexus between the two most influential families of Punjab — that of Capt Amarinder Singh and Parkash Singh Badal. I have had to pay the price of speaking the truth.
