Cong demands loan waiver for Raj farmers on pattern of UP, Maha

Sikar (Rajasthan), June 14
Holding protests in all 33 districts of the state, the Congress on Wednesday demanded that farmers in Rajasthan should also be given loan waiver against their crop damage on the pattern of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a rally of farmers at Sikar’s Krishi Upaj Mandi, PCC president Sachin Pilot said: “Fifty per cent profit of Minimum Support Price (MCP) should be raised for farmers and bonus should be given in case MSP is less than the production cost.”
He was accompanied by Avinash Pandey, AICC general secretary and state in-charge.
“In three-and-a-half years of Raje’s rule, 61 farmers have committed suicide in Rajathan. One farmer is ending his life every 41 minutes in the country,” Pilot claimed.
“There are 41 lakh farmers but 10 lakh of them have still not got crop damage compensation due to natural calamities,” Pilot said.
The district Congress units held a protest demanding loan waiver to farmers and submitted a memorandum to the collectors to this effect, party spokesperson Archna Sharma said.
