Chandigarh, October 14: People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal today said the promise of ushering common man into era of ‘Achhe Din’ made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had turned into days of horror going by the skyrocketing prices of pulses and vegetables. A government that can’t provide even the basics like onions at affordable prices has no right to exist.

“Pulses are the staple diet of common man but the same have gone out of his reach due to skyrocketing prices. The Modi government seems to be government of hoarders as artificial scarcity of pulses has been created in the country by hoarding the stock. There is no indication of the government at the centre or the state level taking action against the hoarders committing crime against the common man”, he added.

Manpreet said poor people used to have dal or chutney made from onions but both had now become luxury, thanks to the Achhe Din of the Modi government. He asked whether this promise was also a Jumla.

The PPP chief demanded immediate strict action at the national level against the hoarders to end this artificial scarcity. However, it seemed that these very people controlling commerce and trade were supporters of the BJP and were taking advantage of the patronage from the rulers.

He called upon the Prime Minister to devote at least some time to resolve the basic issues that concern the common man and essential to his or her existence. One was still to hear anything from Modi as to what the government was doing to bring about changes that could benefit the common man as taking care of the corporates was not enough.

He also urged Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to arrange for the essential commodities to cater to the needs of the common people as this was also the basic responsibility of the government.

He lambasted the Akali Dal and the BJP for cheating the people by making false promises during elections.
