CM APPROVES ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE STATUE OF BABA JIWAN SINGH

Chandigarh, October 8: Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today approved the architectural design of the statue of Baba Jiwan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji) to be installed at his upcoming memorial in Sri Anandpur Sahib at a cost of Rs.25 crore.

Presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the Baba Jiwan Singh Memorialhere at Chief Minister’s residence this afternoon, Mr. Badal also gave nod to the site plan of the memorial which has been designed by the department of Architecture and Planning (DAP) of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar.

Explaining the salient features of the layout plan of Baba Jiwan Singh Memorialthrough a presentation, the Dean of the DAP Prof. S.S. Bahl apprised the Chief Minister that besides Bhai Jaita Ji’s memorial it would comprise a vast gallery,  5-D Theater/Auditorium, Arena (displaying martial arts like Gatka and Horse Riding) by the School children, Administrative Block, outdoor plaza, souvenir shops and parking. He said that a life sized statue of Bhai Jaita Ji’s would be installed on the raised platform of 10 meters height, the design of which was preliminary approved by the Committee of experts headed by the Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal. This memorial was aimed at propagating the rich legacy of Baba Jiwan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji) amongst the future generations, who displayed highest moral values of selfless service, commitment and dedication towards the Khalsa Panth founded by the tenth master of Sikhs Sri Guru Gobind Singh, thus braving the atrocities and injustice by the then Mughal emperors.

Taking part in the deliberations, the Chief Minister approved the design of the statue at state level subject to its final clearance from the Takht Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar. He specifically asked the Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs and Tourism to refer it to the Dharm Parchar Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) for seeking their approval prior to obtain a seal of approval from the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh as a final authority before going ahead with the process of installation of the stature.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs informed Mr. Badal that the construction work of this memorial would be entrusted to the state PWD (B&R) Department and the architectural work of design and layout of the site would be executed by the Architectural & Planning Department of GNDU. The memorial would be dedicated to the people in April 2016.

Prominent amongst others who attended the meeting included Cabinet Ministers Animal Husbandry & Welfare of SC’s & BC’s Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike, Tourism & Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, MLA Bassi Pathana Justice (Retd.) Mr. Nirmal Singh, former SGPC President and Chairman Punjab State Backward Classes Commission Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, Chairman of Dalit Bhalai Board Mr. Vijay Danav, Principal Secretary Tourism & Cultural Affairs Mrs. Anjali Bhawara, Director Tourism & Cultural Affairs Mr. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, Dean Department of Architecture and Planning Mr. S.S. Bahl and Sikh Historian Mr. Jaswant Singh.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Randeep Singh Gill, Mr. Karnail Singh Sahota, Mr. Om Parkash Gabbar, Mr. Lachmann Dravid, Mr. Naresh Dhingan, Mr. Yashpal Chaudhary, Mr. Faqir Chand Sahota and Mr. Subash Sondhi.
