CLP leader Channi welcomes move to boycott Khadoor Sahib by-poll

charanjit-singh-channi480Chandigarh, January 27: The Punjab Congress Legislature Party chief Mr Charanjit Singh Channi today extended full support to the party decision to boycott the Khadoor Sahib Assembly bye-election.

Mr Channi said the reasons for which the sitting Congress MLA Mr Ramanjit Singh Singh Sikki had resigned from this seat pertaining to the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and the related issues continued to be unresolved and as such, contesting the election would have defeated the very spirit of the issues that had been taken up by Mr Sikki. He said the party was one with Mr Sikki on these sensitive religious issues.

He pointed out that the Bir of Guru Granth Sahib that went missing on June 1 from Burj Jawahar Singhwala village was yet to be traced. No action had been taken against the police personnel responsible for wanton firing against people protesting against sacrilege at Behbal Kalan in which two people were killed. He said the Congress has in protest boycotted the bye election because of the attitude of the present government towards the Sikh issues and Sikh sentiments. Congress would continue to fight with the present government for these issues.
