CKD to elect new office bearers within two months

Chandigarh, Feb 6

The executive panel of Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) on Monday endorsed the removal of Charanjit Singh Chadha as its president and his expulsion from the primary membership of the Sikh body. CKD executive president Dhanraj Singh said the expulsion has been done as per the directives of the Akal Takht.

He said the next president and other office bearers of the CKD will be elected within two months. Though CKD office-bearers had expelled Chadha from the primary membership a few days after his alleged objectionable video had gone viral on December 26 last year, endorsement from the executive panel and general House was required for the move as per the constitution of the organisation. The executive endorsed the decision unanimously and a meeting of the general House in this regard will be conducted on Tuesday.

Of total 30 members, nearly 20 were present in the executive meeting held at the headquarters of the CKD, which is 115-year-old socio-religious Sikh organisation running over 50 schools, besides other institutions of human welfare. Chadha was seen in the video in an “objectionable position” with a woman principal of a school under the organisation.
