Chandigarh, March 30: The Punjab Congress legislature Party chief Mr Charanjit Singh Channi today demanded comprehensive rehabilitation and resettlement package to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh violence. The package should include Rs 25 lakh as compensation and a government job to one member of each affected family.

In a statement, he lambasted the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal for shedding crocodile tears for these families and exploiting them as political tool in elections over the years without doing anything tangible for them when in power. Channi said that he raised this issue in the budget session of the Punjab vidhan sabha but the government didn’t give any assurance on the floor of the house. the maximum

He said now it was the BJP that was in power at the centre in which the Shiromani Akali Dal has powerful representation with Union Food processing Minister Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal. He reminded Mr Badal that she had been raising this issue during the UPA regime but had now suddenly become silent when she could have moved Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek his intervention in expediting the cases to punish the guilty, who-so-ever he might be.

Mr Channi said earlier, Mr Badal and other Akali leaders used to blame the Congress government for shoddy investigation due to which the guilty were still to be punished but now that had no excuse.

He called upon the Chief Minister to act immediately without wasting any time rather than keep the issue to exploit the same in every election.
