‘Castle’ star Stana Katic is leaving the ABC series

Stana_Katic0307_620_387_100LOS ANGELES, April 19 — The ABC has confirmed that Castle star Stana Katic will not return for season nine of the series, according to Deadline.

Katic has played the key role of detective Kate Beckett since the thriller series’ launch, alongside fellow co-star Nathan Fillion, who acts as writer-turned-PI Rick Castle. Fillion, however, is reportedly set to return for season nine.

The news follows the departure of Castle creator Andrew Marlowe, who left the show at the end of last season, after Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter joined the team.

The ABC praised Katic’s performance and dedication to the series in a statement which read: “Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship. Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.”

Fellow original cast member Tamala Jones, who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish, will also be leaving the series at the end of season eight.
