CHANDIGARH, October 21: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today rejected the “conspiracy theory” being put forward by the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal over the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahab. “It is simply a concoction of lies and nobody was going to buy it”, he remarked.

“This is absolutely a concocted and contrived theory conceived by the state government using the Punjab Police to wriggle out of the situation”, he said in a statement issued here today, while reiterating that only an inquiry by a sitting High Court or Supreme Court judge can establish the truth as police investigations, if there were any, are devoid of any credentials and credibility.

Referring to the arrest of two baptised brothers from Panjgraian village, the former Chief Minister maintained that the government was taking suspicion to be as final proof and evidence and pronouncing the verdict much before the investigations have actually started.

He cautioned the government against rushing to the conclusions without any conclusive proof and evidence lest it lead to alienation among the people. “Beware of implicating innocent people to save your own skin”, he warned the government.

Asserting that the government was trying to shift the blame on some hidden foreign hand to hide its own failures, the former Chief Minister said, the situation in Punjab deteriorated only after the police used brute force including indiscriminate firing against the peaceful protestors.

“Let us not forget that the protests spread across the state only after your police resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on peaceful protestors killing two of them and injuring 40 others”, he told Sukhbir, adding, “and if there really is a foreign hand then your police officials are party to the conspiracy as they added fuel to the fire”.

He asked as why the government stayed still since June last when the theft of the Guru Granth Sahab was reported. He said, had the people not protested the state government would not have taken any action even now over the theft of the holy Bir that eventually ended in the desecration.
