BJP leader, 2 others booked for farmer’s death
CHANDIGARH, January 28: Promising a neat and clean administration, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today said he will ensure transparency in the recruitments through Punjab Public Service Commission and the Subordinate Services Commission the way he had done in his previous term between 2002 and 2007.
Capt Amarinder also declared that although he had pledged to finish the drug problem in the state within four weeks after assuming power, he will actually do it before that as he already knew as who were the people responsible for production and supply of the drugs in Punjab. “I will catch the masterminds and the big fish at the first go”, he declared with cheers from the students.
Fielding a range of questions at the Panjab University Law Auditorium here today, Capt Amarinder also reiterated that his government will provide at least one job to each family in the state and every person employed will get a reasonable and respectable salary.
“We will set a higher limit of minimum wages below which nobody will be allowed to pay”, he said amidst thundering applause from the students in the jam packed auditorium. He said, while the industry can make profits, at the same time it must pay proper wages to the people working for it.
Asked as how he can ensure ‘one job one family’, Capt Amarinder said, he understood that all the jobs cannot be provided by the government. “Whatever jobs can be provided in the government will be based on merit and merit alone”, he asserted, adding, he would formulate policies and build up the confidence of investors so that more jobs are generated in the private sector.
The former Chief Minister lashed out at the Akali-BJP government in the state for failing all sections of the society, whether industry, agriculture, students or the youth. He said, it was a strange irony that the two industrial advisors of the government, who are leading industrialists themselves and have been given ministerial ranks, have themselves expanded into the states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.
The PCC president said, his top most priority will be the economic revival of the state that will eventually lead to job creation. He said, revival of agriculture and industry topped his agenda and he had already set up a task force to suggest ways and means for the purpose which will be later incorporated in the election manifesto.
Replying to a question about the monopoly over transport and cable by the Badal family, Capt Amarinder announced that he knew that they (the Badals) were operating ten or more buses on one route permit. He said, while they will be allowed to operate one bus, rest of the routes they are operating illegally, will be distributed among the unemployed youth of the state. “Not only will the youth get the route permits, they will also be provided soft loans to buy the buses”, he said to a thundering applause from the students.
