CHANDIGARH, February 25: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today reminded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promise to lakhs of ex-servicemen during his election campaign that he never fulfilled thus forcing the veterans to stage a continuous Satyagraha at the Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

Capt Amarinder, himself a veteran, also attended the Satyagraha today and stayed there for three hours. He reiterated his commitment and support to the veterans’ struggle for one rank one pension. He said, this was no special favour to the veterans as it was their rightful due.

“We have done our due and now it is for the nation to reciprocate”, he told the veterans while regretting that while in the service they had to guard the borders against hostile enemies and environments, after the retirement they had to fight their own government to get their rightful due.

The former Punjab Chief Minister, who has participated in the 1965 Indo-Pak war, reminded the nation in general and the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister in particular about the sacrifices the soldiers lay for the nation both during the war and the peace time.

“It is not long back that ten of our brave soldiers were buried alive under an avalanche in Siachen and all of you beat your breasts so hard to mourn the tragedy”, he reminded the people in the government adding, “but now we can make out that was all drama as you don’t seem to be sincere with us, the veterans”.

Capt Amarinder said, he will raise the issue in the ongoing budget session of the parliament so that the issue comes under focus once again. He regretted that the veterans seemed to be nobody’s priority in the government. “Be careful, you are not sending a right message to those who are serving the nation today and will be veterans like us tomorrow”, he cautioned the government.
