Capt Amarinder describes FIR against unidentified cops as eyewash to protect guilty

Capt Amarinder

CHANDIGARH, October 22: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today said that the FIR registered against unidentified cops for the killing of two protestors was just an eyewash actually aimed at protecting the guilty.

He maintained that the Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini was clearly trying to protect the guilty cops who were his favourites. “Otherwise what is the purpose in not naming the guilty when everybody knew who they were?” he pointed out.

In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder said, the very fact that no cops have been named in the FIR when everybody knew who ordered the firing on the peaceful protestors and who actually fired, makes the intentions of this government too obvious that it was more interested in protecting the guilty cops than doing justice.

The former Chief Minister pointed out, it is an admitted fact by the police themselves that the suspended Moga SSP Charanjit Sharma had ordered the police firing and the local SHO and his team had fired at the peaceful protestors.

“Where is the doubt or any ambiguity not to name these two persons in the FIR?” he asked, while adding, “just because these cops are close favourites of the DGP Sumedh Saini, they were being protected”.

He apprehended that ultimately the Punjab Police under the command of the DGP Saini will end up implicating some innocent junior cops who may not have much role in the incident and save the actual culprits.

“It is the person who has ordered the firing who should be held guilty and in this case it was clearly the suspended Moga SSP who is now being protected by his boss”, he asserted, while reiterating that the same cop along with the concerned SHO must be named in the FIR as the prime accused, dismissed from the services and immediately arrested”.
