OSHAWA, Ont. — Police say a man facing a shotgun-wielding attacker grabbed the weapon and disarmed the suspect with the help of four bystanders.
Durham Regional Police say the suspect, who was with another man, was walking down an Oshawa, Ont., street on Tuesday night yelling at people to stop staring at him.
It’s alleged he then pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at one of the bystanders at close range.
Investigators say the bystander grabbed the gun and, with the help of four other people, disarmed the suspect and held him until officers arrived.
An unloaded shotgun was recovered at the scene and investigators are trying to identify the second man, who walked away before the physical confrontation began.
A 20-year-old Oshawa man faces a dozen charges, including pointing a firearm, uttering threats and possession of a prohibited weapon.
