Book MLA’s spouse: Akalis

Akali worker

Ferozepur,  A day after two Akali workers were killed at Rukan Shah Wala village, their family members and supporters refuse to cremate their bodies.
Hundreds of SAD-BJP workers today blocked the GT road (NH-95) near octroi post no. 7 in protest against the attack on the family of Akali leader Balwinder Singh wherein his father Harnam Singh and brother Joginder Singh were killed, while he sustained bullet injuries.
Balwinder is the district vice-president of the SAD (Rural) and his mother Amar Kaur is a member of the village panchayat.
The police have registered an FIR against Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha Dhillon, the alleged main accused, besides his brother Ranjit Singh, Karaj Singh and several others, all of whom have allegiance to the Congress. The Akali workers, however, sought the inclusion of more names, including that of Jasmail Singh Laddi Gehri, husband of Congress MLA from Ferozepur (Rural) Satkar Kaur. Laddi was earlier booked on the charges of killing a youth, Nishan Singh, outside a polling booth at Piareanawala village in 2012.
Talking to The Tribune, Joginder Singh Jindu, former Akali Dal MLA, demanded that action should also be taken against the SHO of Kulgarhi police station, claiming that had he acted on the compliant of Balwinder, the incident could have been prevented.
Jindu said the protest would continue till their demands were met. Sources said SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal was likely to join the protest tomorrow.
Senior Akali-BJP leaders, including Vardev Singh Noni Mann, Avtar Singh Minna, Sukhpal Singh Nannu and hundreds of their supporters, sat on a dharna on the highway that led to a traffic jam. Commuters had to face a nightmare as this is the only road passing through the town and links it to Bhatinda, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and other places.
Noni alleged that the main accused, Lakha Dhillon, was closely associated with Laddi and other senior Congress leaders.
The dharna was finally lifted around 5:35 pm when SSP Gaurav Garg reached the spot. While rebutting all allegations that the police were allegedly working under political pressure, the SSP said they were conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and anyone found guilty would not be spared irrespective of his political affiliation. The police had already launched a manhunt to nab the accused named in the FIR, he said.
Sources said deceased Harnam Singh had three sons, one of whom stayed in the US, and the family was waiting for him to arrive for the cremation.
