Bhattal meets Sonia, says revamp delay to harm party

bibi-rajinder-kaur-BhathalNew Delhi, Former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today urged the Congress leadership to declare the restructured state party unit at the earliest saying any further delay would cause harm to the party’s interests in the state.Bhattal, who met Congress president Sonia Gandhi this morning, is learnt to have discussed with her a range of issues concerning the state politics as well as challenges of reorganising the party in Punjab with a view to harmonising disparate voices.Bhattal said: “I urged the party president to declare the new PPCC leader without any delay. I have conveyed to the party leadership that I would stand by their decision whatever it is.”Incumbent PPCC chief Partap Bajwa is set to be replaced shortly with former minister and Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni. A decision on the reorganisation is learnt to have been taken and a formal announcement is due any time now.It is learnt that various sections of Punjab Congress have reconciled to the expected announcement of Soni. The only leader silent on the matter is Capt Amarinder Singh who led the rebellion against Bajwa.Captain is likely to be named the chief of Punjab Congress campaign committee with a convener under him. Sources said he had no reason to worry about his chief ministerial nomination. “These worries appear unfounded because the Congress, since the Punjab reorganisation, has named Jat Sikhs as CMs of Punjab. The convention is unlikely to be broken,” said a senior Congress leader. It is learnt Soni’s role would be to get senior and young leaders to unite ahead of the state elections in 2017.
