‘Ban Apple Watches’ is trending! Know INSIDE STORY – Why import of THESE devices is being banned in US

Apple revolutionized the wearable technology scene with its iconic Apple Watch. The fascinating piece of tech is in the news for a ban on the sale of two flagship Apple Watch models in the U.S. The reason for this ban seems to be the iPhone maker’s legal battle over a patent which covers a blood oxygen measurement feature, a report by the Economic Times said citing a U.S. appeals court verdict.

The report also mentioned that the legal fight could take a year. Analysts anticipate that tech giant will disable the disputed feature in the meantime to comply with the ban and keep the watch on sale.

The import ban has been in effect since 5 p.m. ET (2200 GMT) of January 18 while Apple appeals a December decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to halt imports of the devices. Apple Watches comprise about a quarter of the global smartwatch market, according to Counterpoint Research.

Masimo the medical tech company which is fighting the patent case in court against Apple said that the ruling affirms that powerful companies also have to respect intellectual rights of American inventors.

“The ruling affirms that even the largest and most powerful companies must respect the intellectual rights of American inventors and must deal with the consequences when they are caught infringing others’ patents,” Joe Kiani, Masimo’s founder and chief executive, said.

Apple representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the decision. The Apple Watch Series 9 range is priced starting at Rs 41900 according to Apple India’s website. Apple’s rugged luxury smartwatch the Apple Ultra 2 is priced at Rs 89,900
