Chandigarh, October 14: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state saying the Akali Dal-BJP government in the state had started letting loose reign of terror against the people after having failed on all fronts. He said unprovoked firing on peaceful people staging dharna leading to the killing of two persons and injuries to a number of others at Behbal village was the latest example.

He said unable to contain the situation in the state and tackle the cause of anger among the people, the police had let loose reign of terror and this would further fan the fire.

He said the districts of Moga and Faridkot in particular had been turned into police state and a curfew like situation prevailed there.

He said the police had failed to arrest the culprits responsible for the act of sacrilege in Bargari village leading to the unrest among the people.

He said the police had become subservient to the political interests of the badal family and the situation had serious ramifications in the long run.

He demanded that high level inquiry must be ordered into the police firing as Punjab was a sensitive state which had earlier paid a heavy cost for Badal’s similar ineptitude.

He said Mr Badal’s main problem was his politics of opportunism and the state could not be allowed to burn for his nefarious designs.

Mr Bajwa said every section of the population in the state was disgusted with this corrupt government that was being run by the leaders who were only filling their own coffers while the state had gone bankrupt.
