More than 25,000 farmers from Punjab participated in Kisan Samman Rally in Delhi

New Delhi/Chandigarh, September 20: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today said that more than 25,000 farmers from Punjab participated in the Kisan Samman Rally held in Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi. He thanked all the senior leadership of Punjab Congress and the farmers from Punjab who made this rally a huge success.

Addressing the massive crowd, S. Partap Singh Bajwa said this rally marked the solidarity of the farmers with the Congress as the party, under the leadership of the Congress President Shrimati Sonia Gandhi and the vice –president Mr Rahul Gandhi had successfully scuttled the atrocious attempt by the NDA government led by Mr Narendra Modi to drop pro-farmer provisions in the land acquisition legislation that was enacted by Dr Manmohan Singh led government in 2013. He said the effort of Mr Modi was to sell the interests of the farmers to the corporate sector that would have proved disastrous for the country.

Bajwa warned Mr Narendra Modi Hon’ble Prime Minister of india and Mr Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister of Punjab of the serious consequences in case the Food Corporation of india was dismantled as that would directly hit the procurement operations. He lambasted the Modi government for having backtracked from the poll promise of implementing the Swaminathan Committee report for fixing prices of the farm produce by ensuring 50 per cent profits over and above the cost of production.

Mr Bajwa assured the farmers that the Congress would continue to espouse their cause forcefully as leaders like Mr Modi and Mr Badal had only been cheating them by projecting themselves as their champions. He said Mr Badal lacked guts to forcefully take up farmers issues with his own government. Mr Bajwa demanded from both the leaders to immediately give a package to the debt ridden farmers of Punjab as it was given by UPA government. Mr Bajwa also demanded a crop insurance cover for the farmers who should be covered for the loss of their produce under any natural calamity or manual foul play.

Bajwa asserted in Punjab, the farmers were up in arms against the Akali Dal-BJP government headed by Mr Parkash Singh Badal that had failed on every front. He referred to the pitiable plight of the farmers in the cotton belt whose crop had been destroyed by the white fly and the increasing incidence of suicides in the rural sector.

More than 500 buses ferried the farmers from Punjab to Kisan Saman Rally today. The farmers assembled at Gurudwara Sri Majnu Ka Tilla in wee hours of the day where they were served with Langar organized by Punjab Congress. Later all the farmers went to Rajghat and then participated in the Rally. The farmers of Punjab were really happy to see that Congress Leadership took such bold steps for the betterment of farmer community not only in Punjab but across the country.
