Chandigarh, The Shiromani Akali Dal General Secretary and spokesperson Harcharan Bains today dared the Congress campaign manager Prashant Kishore and whoever represents the AAP to an open and live TV and media debate on all issues concerning Punjab.

Firing the first salvo of pre-election engagement with his counterparts in other parties, Mr Bains offered to have the debate moderated by an eminent journalist ” at a time and venue and of their choosing.” The debate, he said , will cover all issues including and mainly the performance of the state government and the conduct of political parties in Punjab. It can also cover the relative performance of state governments run by the Congress and AAP in the country

In a statement here, Mr Bains said that the people of Punjab deserve to hear all the claimants to their electoral support and it was high time that the political idiom in the state was lifted out of the morass of cheap and vulgar mud slinging on the one hand and irrational , unenlightened and baseless claims made by self styled champions of the people of Punjab on the other. . ” Let this be a debate between those who are proud of Punjab, it’s hard working farmers, it’s swelling cadre of educated and enlightened women, it’s gifted and successful young start up entrepreneurs, outstanding sportspersons, brilliant students ,teachers etc on the one hand and those who are ashamed of everything about their state, including and chiefly it’s youth whom they insult by calling 70% of them as drug addicts on the other. ”

Mr Bains hoped that Prashant Kishore or whoever truly represents the Congress in the media as well as other parties would accept his offer. ” Let Punjab , especially our youth, hear who stands where about Punjabis and their pride. I am keen to see this new brand of defeatists who belittle their state at every national and international fora. Let punjabis also know why these busybees see nothing good in Punjab and Punjabis. “
