CHANDIGARH, August 31: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today said that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had completely destroyed the century year old great and glorious Akali legacy so much so “the real and the true Akalis” were feeling suffocated and were seeking a way out.

At the same time he cautioned the real and the true Akalis not to make any wrong choices. “Beware that you only make a better choice and not the wrong and the worse one”, he urged them, saying it was the future of Punjab that was at stake and everybody was concerned and worried about.

Reacting to the resignation of the daughter and son in law of late Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra form the Akali Dal, Capt Amarinder said, they were virtually forced out. “It is a tragic reflection on the state of affairs that the inheritors of someone like Jathedar Tohra’s legacy had to find political asylum somewhere else”, he regretted.

He said, what Mr Badal was heading today was in no way the same Akali Dal that was borne out of the great Gurdwara movement and had been conceived and conceptualised by the great Sikh leaders like Baba Kharak Singh, Sant Fateh Singh, Master Tara Singh and others. “It has just been reduced to a private profit making company which only and only watches the business interests of the Badal family”, he regretted, while sharing the concerns of Akalis as a true Punjabi.

While appealing to the real and the true Akalis not to make any wrong choices in hurry, the PCC president said, they have a role and responsibility towards Punjab. “You must ensure that you make a choice from bad to good and not bad to worse”, he told all the Akalis who were fed up with the dictatorial attitude of the Badals, particularly its president and the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

“We are all concerned with the future of Punjab and you must remember the mission of the founding fathers of the Akali Dal who sacrificed their everything for the general interest and not for enriching their own families like Mr Badal”, he recalled, while hoping that they will not allow the great legacy of Akali Dal destroyed by Mr Badal.
