Aren’t You Ashamed: Rahul Hits Out at Cops for Detaining Veteran’s Kin

New Delhi: A verbal battle ensued between Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Police personnel after the former was detained at the Mandir Marg Police Station for “disruption of duty”.

Rahul was detained outside the RML Hospital when he tried to meet the family members of an ex-servicemen who allegedly committed suicide over the non-implementation of the one-rank, one-pension scheme on Tuesday evening.

In a video shot inside the police station, the Congress leader is seen lashing out at a group of policemen for taking into custody few relatives of Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal.

“Do you not feel ashamed? He is a son of an army veteran… and you are arresting them?” an angry Rahul Gandhi said, pointing towards the deceased soldier’s son.

When a policeman said the force was just doing its job, Rahul said, “What kind of job is this?”

Pointing to Grewal’s son and brother, Rahul demanded their release and termed their detention as “shameful”.

“What is your name? You think the family of India’s martyr should be arrested? Do you not feel ashamed?” Rahul asked a senior police official.

He was released after a 70-minute detention.

“A martyr’s family is arrested. This is Modi ji’s India,” he earlier told reporters outside RML Hospital.
