A day before the senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor elections, Kuldeep Kumar, who had said he will assume the charge of Mayor on Monday, refused to do so due to personal circumstances, adding another twist to the ongoing politics of Chandigarh municipal corporation.
Chandigarh DC had announced Feb 27 as the polling day for posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor. The Mayor is the presiding officer for the elections of these two posts and he himself has not yet taken the charge officially. On February 20, the Supreme Court had declared him the winner.
Sources claimed it might be a trick of Aam Aadmi Party to postpone Tuesday’s reelection. However, no notification or order has been issued by the administration regarding the postponement of elections. Since the presiding officer has not assumed the role, the elections may be postponed at this time.
Three AAP council members who recently joined the BJP are reportedly in Gurugram, while the other BJP council members are all at a resort in Morni.
