Chandigarh, October 12 : The Shiromani Akali Dal strongly condemned the storming of a police station in Batala by PPCC President Capt. Amarinder Singh and said this shows that frustration of the state Congress Chief was at peak due to lackluster response to his campaign by the people of Punjab.

In a statement released from the party head office here today, the SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that it is understandable that when Capt Amarinder Singh’s campaign is not picking up in the state and people have cold shouldered his style, he is now resorting to these type of gimmicks only to make headlines. He said that it highly unbecoming of a political leader like him to storm a police station and threaten a law enforcing officer for ‘dismissal’ on the basis of a ‘non-existent’ government. “If he had any genuine grievance against any SHO, he should have brought it to the notice of the DGP, but the way Capt Amarinder Singh has behaved, it amounts to intimidating the junior police officer just to please his political aids,” added Cheema.

Coming down heavily on the Congress leader, Dr Cheema said that on the eve of the 2012 assembly elections too Capt Amarinder Singh had resorted to this type of ‘news creation’ activities. He said that at that time too he had tried to threaten the bureaucracy as well as police force and tried to pressurize them to not to perform their bona-fide

Dr Cheema also said that not only this at that time he had went a step ahead on writing letters to the banks to not to lend money for the development activities in the state and even had asked the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to stop the grants to the state. Dr Cheema reminded the former CM that these type of gimmicks are good to create news but the people of the state are wise enough to understand the frustration of the Congress leadership. He said that the people of the state had rejected his this style twice in the past and he will score hat trick of rejections this time.

He said that the Congress leadership must understand that instead of trying to threaten the law enforcing officers or bureaucracy, it is must to win the confidence of the people to survive politically. He said that as the Congress leader is aware of the truth that he had betrayed the people specially the peasantry, youth and economically downtrodden who were being helped by the SAD-BJP government after he assumed power in 2002, now the truth is haunting him and thus he is resorting to such tricks.
