Amarinder promises to restore dignity of serving, ex-servicemen

CHANDIGARH, August 25: Punjab Pradesh Congress committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today promised to restore the honour and dignity of the serving defence personnel and ex-servicemen once Congress forms the government in the state.
Addressing a well attended meeting of the United Ex-Servicemen Front here today, Capt Amarinder said, during his previous regime he had ensured that the defence personnel and ex-servicemen were accorded due respect in the government offices and police stations. He said, compliance was ensured and those found non-complying were seriously dealt with.
Responding to their demands, the PCC president said that he will ensure that the ex-servicemen got due representation in the government.
Earlier, the chairman of the front, Capt CS Sidhu assured Capt Amarinder full support for the elections. He said, the front will depute at least three thousand ex-servicemen volunteers in each assembly segment to campaign for the Congress.
He said, the front took the unanimous decision after due feedback from across the state as the ex-servicemen wanted to see Capt Amarinder, who is one amongst them only, to become the Chief Minister. Moreover, he added, Capt Amarinder is the only politician in Punjab who is man of his word and has special affection and respect for the serving and ex-servicemen.
On the occasion eight founding members of the Fauji Janata Party also joined the front and announced their support for Capt Amarinder.
Prominent among those present included Lt Gen TS Shergill, Gen Grewal, Gen Dhaliwal, Brig Inder Mohan Singh, Col Nishan Singh Randhawa, Col Raghbir Singh, Col Jarnail Singh, Col Manmohan Singh, Subedar Major Gosal, Subedar Major Sharma, Hon Capt Dara Singh and Naib Subedar Balbir Singh.
