All the culprits behind this barbaric act should be arrested and given rigorous punishment: Channi

Charanjit-Singh-Channi

Chandigarh, October 12: The Punjab Congress Legislature Party chief Mr Charanjit Singh Channi today demanded immediate arrest of all the culprits who are involved in the barbaric act of killing of Sukhchain Singh, 21 year old Dalit of Gharangna Village in Mansa district. The culprits wont be let free this time as this government is in habit of making compromise with the culprits and later letting them free. This has happened in every SIT, which was made by this present regime for fair inquiry, but none of the families got justice. He also made it clear that the congress party stands with the Dalit Community in this hour grief and will fight for their justice. Channi said that this barbaric act has once again shown anti-dalit face of the Akali Dal-BJP regime headed by Mr Parkash Singh Badal under whom the state had turned into mafia rule.

Expressing deep shock and anguish over the brutal killing of a dalit youth Sukhchain in Gharagna village last night by the liquor mafia, Mr Channi said the killers chopped off one leg of the victim and threw it away. He said this was not the first case of such barbaric killing of a dalit. Earlier, the body of a Dalit, Bheem Tank, was chopped to pieces by the liquor mafia in Abohar associated with an Akali leader and their Halka incharge Shiv Lal Doda.

He said Mr Badal was the chief minister only in name going by the continuous deterioration of law and order situation in the state. The Home Minister happened to be his Deputy Chief Minister son Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal whose only contribution was creation of the mafia and the gangs that had made Punjab amongst the most unsafe states. These ruling party leaders had turned so thick skinned that they just don’t bother about the deteriorating situation as their only objective was to loot this state.

Mr Channi said seeking resignation of the chief minister or the deputy chief minister in view of such increasing atrocities was now meaningless. He said with the elections otherwise due in February 2017, the only way out was early election which could legally be now held any time with less than six months to go.

He said the dalits had been the worst sufferers. He also referred to the tension between dalits and the landlords in Jhaloor village in Sangrur district over allotment of shamlat land. He pointed out that due to the continuing tension, about 20 dalit families had been forced to leave the village. He asserted the dalits were entitled to their share from the shamlat land for cultivation.

He assured the dalits that the Congress after coming into power would fully protect their interests on such issues.
