Akal Takht holds SGPC responsible for matching activities of ‘parallel’ jathedars

Amritsar, October 15
Fumed over the ‘corresponding’ actions being taken by the ‘parallel’ Jathedars appointed by the controversial 2015 Sarbat Khalsa, Akal Takht on Sunday issued stern directions to the SGPC and state government to stop them from creating chaos in the Golden Temple complex.

A substantial number of SGPC members led by Bibi Jagir Kaur today submitted a memorandum to Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh demanding strict action against the ‘parallel’ Jathedars for resorting to ‘sacrilegious’ activities.
Categorically holding the SGPC responsible for it, Giani Gurbachan Singh said, “The situation has now reached an intolerable state due to the lenient attitude of the SGPC which has encouraged the ‘akhoti’ (illusory) Jathedars to hold their ‘equivalent court’ outside the shrine premises under the garb of Akal Takht. It is a gross violation of the sanctity and authority of Akal Takht to pronounce ‘hukumnamas’, ‘tankhah’ (religious punishment) and excommunication from the Panth since 2015 by a group of so-called Jathedars. Similarly, they carried on with delivering ‘customary message’ on the Bandi Chhor Divas (Diwali) and creating ruckus.”
“If any untoward instance occurred in or around the shrine in future, the SGPC and government would be responsible. Both authorities have been directed to take note of it,” he said.
