Chandigarh, July 29 : The Punjab Police on Saturday registered a case against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator from Ropar Amarjit Singh Sandoa after a woman alleged that he assaulted and molested her.

The victim, the landlady of a house where the legislator earlier lived, told the police in her complaint that the AAP leader assaulted and molested her when she went to Sandoa’s house on Friday evening to claim the remaining rent, which he allegedly did not pay.
The police registered a case against Sandoa under Sections 354, 294,506, 509, 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after getting medical examination of the woman done.
The legislator denied having done anything. Sandoa said he had to pay money to the landlady against electricity and water bills.
He claimed that he gave a cheque to the landlady but she refused to accept it and left the place.
The woman alleged that Sandoa had vacated the house in May this year without paying one month’s rent. She also said the legislator’s family had damaged the house.
Sandoa, a political greenhorn who used to be a taxi driver in Delhi, had made headlines in March when he trounced Punjab’s Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema in the Rupnagar assembly segment.
Cheema from the then ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and a prominent minister, finished a poor third in the contest, behind the Congress candidate.
Sandoa now runs a small transport company in Delhi.
The AAP has 20 legislators in the 117-member assembly and is the main opposition party in Punjab.
