Charanjit-Singh-Channi

Chandigarh, August 29: The Punjab Congress Legislature Party chief and the Leader of the Opposition Mr Charanjit Singh Channi today said that the thirteenth vidhan Sabha session which is going to start on 8th Sepetember should be atleast extended by 20 days more. The government knows this is the last session and there are important issues to be discussed on the floor of the house regarding the working of this government for the last ten years. These important facts have to be brought to the public domain. The congress party demands that the session should be of 25 days so that proper time is given to important discussions and the current issues of the state. Channi also demanded special discussion on the drugs, law and order, farmers suicides, Atrocities on Dalits, non deliverance of the welfare schemes announced by this government, derailed education and health system, closure of industry and neglected employees, traders and businessmen of the state.

Channi also said that the meeting of the CLP will be held at his official residence on September 1 which will be chaired by Capt Amarinder Singh President PPCC. The members will discuss on the strategy to be adopted in the coming session so that the ruling government is cornered.

Mr Channi also demanded that the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and his government should be charged with committing fraud on the people. He particularly referred to the case of Mr Chela Singh, 83, who is the ‘poster boy’ on the ads inserted by the Badal government in the newspapers to claim all the credit for the old age pension scheme. Nothing can be more ridiculous than the fact that the person concerned is not even registered as a pensioner. He had applied for pension twice during the last seven years. Even his 80 years old wife Mrs Jagjit Kaur is not among the beneficiaries.

He said, Mr Chela Singh of Kaler village in Faridkot district had also applied for Bhagat Puran Singh Bima Yojna and subsidized atta-dal scheme but his applications were never cleared. What a joke with the people at such an age.

He called upon Mr Badal to publicly apologise for committing this fraud on the people.

He said it was now clear as to how the business empire of the Badals had expanded exponentially. The huge amount that was being claimed in the newspaper ads having been spent had been diverted, he alleged.
