Kashmiri Pandits are still refugees in our own country: Anupam Kher

Anupam KherMumbai: Speaking on the 27th anniversary of Kashmiri Pandits exodus from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Bollywood actor Anupam Kher on Thursday said that no Kashmiri Pandit can ever forget what happened on January 19, 1990.

“Even after 27 years no person has ever picked up any weapon because we believe in peace and the greatness of our country,” Anupam Kher said.

The veteran actor also shared a poem about Kashmiri Pandits titled ‘silent scream’ on Twitter saying, “27 years on we Kashmiri Pandits are still refugees in our own country. A protest poem about their Silent Scream.”

The Poem has been directed by Ashoke Pandit and written by Dr. Shahsi Shekhar Toshkani.

The Kashmiri Pandits had been a favoured section of the population of the Kashmir valley during. Around 20% of them left the valley as a consequence of the 1948 Muslim riots and the 1950 land reforms. By 1981 the Pandit population amounted to 5% of the total.
