Youth Cong workers go berserk

Ludhiana, Around 15 persons, including five women, holding black flags gheraoed Congress MP Ravneet Bittu’s vehicle at Circuit House this afternoon.
The Congress MP was here to launch a website and helpline number for party’s membership drive. Around 700 party workers were also present on the occasion. Heated arguments ensued between the two groups.
Dugri resident Charanjit Singh’s supporters damaged the side view mirror of Bittu’s vehicle. Soon, a section of Youth Congress workers went berserk and allegedly manhandled the protesters. Congress workers also snatched the camera of a photo journalist.
Charanjit’s supporters accused the Youth Congress workers of manhandling them. Congress workers alleged that the protesters breached the security cordon to go close to Bittu’s vehicle.
Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu later apologised for party workers’ conduct with mediapersons.
The police rounded up some protesters and Congress workers for creating ruckus. Both groups later reached a compromise. “We received information about the protest and reached the spot. Though some persons were rounded up, no action was taken as both groups refused to lodge any complaint,” said Surinder Chopra, SHO, PAU police station.
Sources said some Congress workers deliberately went on rampage.
