Chandigarh, November 24: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said Punjab Congress President Partap Bajwa was least expected to speak on drug addiction as he and his family had been accused of being in league with drug traffickers by former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh in a letter written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Reacting to wild and spurious allegations levelled by Partap Bajwa that the SAD had made the Sadbhavana rally at Bathinda successful by distributing drugs, SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said if anyone could be prima facia held responsible for the same it was the Bajwa family which was accused of supporting the drug trade in the Majha region. “Capt Amarinder has never denied the contents of the letter which have also been made public. You on your part have never taken him to court indicating you know that such a letter exists and that it contains matter which could indict you”, the SAD MP told Bajwa.
Asking Bajwa not to let frustration get the better of him, the SAD MP said the SAD could understand his predicament. “You were day dreaming before the Bathinda rally that the SAD was finished as a force but the rally which saw an unprecedented 2.5 lakh people collecting at one spot from five constituencies has jolted you out of your day dream. You now realise the SAD- BJP alliance is set to return back to power in 2017. This has made you lose all reasoning and you have started ranting like a mad man”, Mr Chandumajra added.
The SAD leader said the fact of the matter was that it was Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who had defamed Punjabis by claiming that a majority of youth were drug addicts. He said everyone knew Rahul had skewed the findings of a survey conducted by the GND University to suit his interests. “But in this process he has defamed the entire Punjabi community”, Chandumajra said adding Bajwa should look into his as well as his family’s conduct rather than trying to point fingers at others
