World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni sports green gloves with Army insignia, Twitter applauds

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s love and respect for the Army is well known. During the team’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup match against South Africa, the wicketkeeper was seen donning the ‘Balidaan’ (sacrifice) badge on one of his wicket-keeping gloves.

During the team’s first match in Southampton, eagle-eyed fans spotted a special symbol embroidered on the gloves of Dhoni, which created a huge buzz online.

Close-up pictures of his green gloves showed the regimental dagger insignia of the Indian Para Special forces also known as ‘Balidaan’, symbolising sacrifice.

After the pictures went viral, the fans couldn’t stop praising the wicket-keeper. They praised him for his dedication towards his country and armed forces.

Dhoni, who has been conferred an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment in 2011 made the special tribute. He also went training under the Para Brigade in 2015.
