Women’s World Cup final: Goswami strikes thrice, England 164/6 in 38 overs

London, July 23
England were 164 for 6 in 38 overs against India in the final of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, on Sunday.
Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bat.

England lost their openers Lauren Winfield for 24 runs and Tammy Beaumont for 23.

Captain Heather Knight was lbw on 1 by spinner Poonam Yadav, who has taken 2 wickets while Rajeshwari Gaikwad took one wicket.
Jhulan Goswami has taken 3 wickets, two of them on successive balls. She dismissed Sarah Taylor who was looking dangerous in her innings of 45 runs, and in the very next ball got the wicket of Fran Wilson on a duck.
Natalie Sciver who was looking good on 51 runs was lbw by Goswami. England took a DRS review but the original decision of out prevailed.

“We would’ve batted first as well, but our seamers are back in form, they’ll relish bowling upfront,” Indian captain Mithali Raj said at the toss.

The two teams faced each other on the opening day of the tournament where India won by 35 runs. However, England have been unbeaten since then, winning seven matches on the trot. They also topped the standings in the pool stage with six wins out of seven matches.

Both sides are unchanged.
