Brampton: One woman is dead and a six-year-old girl is in critical condition following a three-vehicle crash in Brampton this morning.
According to police, a Hyundai was travelling on Highway 50 near Cottrelle Boulevard shortly before 7 a.m. when it collided with a transport truck and struck another vehicle.
A six-year-old girl and four adults were taken to hospital following the crash and an elderly woman was pronounced dead at the scene. All six people were occupants of the Hyundai, police confirm.
Two women, who were in the back of the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a trauma centre. Two men, who were in the front of the car, suffered minor injuries.
The child, police say, was in the back of the vehicle at the time of the crash. She was first taken to a local hospital but was later transferred to a trauma centre where she remains in critical condition.
Const. Bally Saini told CP24 at the scene that they have not yet determined if weather played a role in the crash.
“It is all part of the investigation,” she said. “We did have a light snowfall. It is the first one of the year now.”
Highway 50 is closed from Bellchase Trail to Ebenezer Road.
“Our major collision (team) is on scene. They are investigating right now. The area is going to be blocked off for a little while,” she added.
Police ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash to contact investigators
