Woman charged with murder in stabbing death of older sister

ca1A 52-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her older sister inside the west-end home they both shared.
Officers were dispatched to a home on Old Weston Road north of St. Clair Avenue at around 1 p.m. on Friday after the accused called 911.
Once on scene, police found a female with multiple stab wounds to her torso lying on the kitchen floor. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was then rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries some time later.
The accused was arrested at the scene.
According to police, the victim had moved to Toronto from Vietnam to live with the sister however it is unclear how long she had been in the country.
Neither the accused nor the victim have a criminal record.
“We are still working through what the dynamics of the relationship were,” Det. Murray Barnes told reporters on Saturday. “We have a pretty good picture but of course the more information we get the better our investigation will be. If there are people out there that recognize the house or know the accused and victim, we are asking you to contact us and tell us more about their relationship.”
Police have been unable to enter the home since the stabbing first occurred and are awaiting a search warrant that will allow them to go inside and continue their investigation.
Speaking with reporters, Barnes said that responding officers on Friday did see a kitchen knife near the victim and believe that it is in fact the murder weapon.
A motive, however, remains unclear.
“I don’t believe there was any pre planning or any of the ingredients of first-degree murder and conversely this isn’t just an accidental death in my opinion,” Barnes said.
Barnes said that the victim and the accused were alone in the home at the time of the stabbing but he refused to disclose whether anyone else lives in the residence.
Hoa Hong Nguyen, 52, is expected to appear in court this afternoon.
The identity of the victim is not being released pending the notification of family overseas.
