Why does migraine cause vomiting and how to get rid of it naturally?

New Delhi: Migraine attacks are one of the worst pains any person can endure. Migraines are described as a cerebrovascular disorder marked by throbbing, pounding pain which happens usually on one side of the head.

The pain is so high that it is accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

What causes nausea and vomiting during a migraine attack?

Many people do feel that after vomiting, the pain halts for a while and so they try and induce it but there are different reasons why it could happen.

Rachel Colman, a headache specialist at the Hartford Healthcare Headache Center told Healthline in an interview that vomiting could be the end of a migraine attack as it may involve sudden beginning and ending of gut movement.

“For some vomiting is the end of a migraine. For others, it is merely a feature that accompanies migraine. Sometimes, the gut slows or even stops moving and as the migraine ends, the gut begins to move again, and the vomiting is an accompanying feature of the migraine ending, as the GI tract starts to work again,” she said.

According to Dr. Roderick Spears, a neurologist, nausea, and vomiting can also be a cause of anorexia in some people. “If they have mild nausea, it might present as what we call anorexia, where you just don’t have an appetite; you don’t want to eat because you feel like you will get sick,” Dr. Spears told Everydayhealth.com. “For more full-blown nausea, the person may be sweating, and if they don’t stop the migraine, they’re going to start vomiting,” he added.

According to the American Migraine Foundation, nausea and vomiting usually occur during the prodrome phase of migraine. This phase signals the beginning of a migraine but can last several days. How to get rid of nausea and vomiting?
