‘We are completely against SYL Canal, as Punjab does not have enough water to share’: Kejriwal

Sichewal-14

SEECHEWAL, March 15: Clarifying Aam Admi Party (AAP)’s stand on the contentious issue of Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today vowed that he was totally against the construction of SYL Canal, as the Punjab does not have enough water to be shared with other states.

Kejriwal was replying to a query by media on the issue of AAP’s stand on SYL at Seechewal village, where he visited to meet renowned environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal.

Seechewal showed visiting Delhi Chief Minister the environmental projects, which he initiated in the area to clean the rivulet water passing through the area to make it viable for the irrigation purpose.

Glad and surprised over the ‘environment friendly model’, adopted by the Sant Seechewal to clean the rivulet through mass movement, Kejriwal invited him (Seechewal) to New Delhi to help authorities to clean the Yamuna.

“We want you to lead the authorities in Delhi to help them in the project to clean the Yamuna River”, He told Seechewal.

Sant Seechewal handed over a memorandum on the burning issues of Punjab to Kejriwal with a request for its adoption after coming into power in Punjab.

He urged AAP National Convenor to keep the issues like Environment, Education and Health on the priority in the poll manifesto to be finalised by AAP. All these issues are co-related for providing clean and health environment in the state, Seechewal said.

Kejriwal also planted a tree in the village, which was named as “Kejriwal Plant” by Sant Seechewal.

“After coming into power in Punjab, environment friendly model, which Seechewal has adopted in the small village, will be implemented in entire Punjab”, Kejriwal said.
