* Revenue collection and connections saw a steep rise in last four months
* Anil joshi directs borad to take hold of sewerage operation in rest of cities till march 31, 2015
Chandigarh, After the landmark decision of Punjab government to hand over the sewerage operations and maintenance of water supply to the sewerage board, the board has till date took over the operations in more than 37 cities. In the past 4 months the revenue collection in these cities has increased to the tune of Rs. 82 lakh at the same time water connections have also saw a steep rise. It was disclosed by Mr. Anil Joshi, Local Bodies Minister in a press communiqué here today.
Mr. Joshi said that Punjab Government with a view to provide safe potable drinking water and better sewerage facility to the cities of the state has decided to hand over the sewerage operation and its maintenance of all the cities of the state expect 11 big cities (6 cities with Municipal Corporation and 5 Municipal Councils) to the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board. He said that in the rest of these big cities this operation would be undertaken by the Water Supply and Sanitation Department. The Minister further said that CEO of the Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been directed to complete all the basic formalities for taking the charge of rest of cites. He said that water supply and sewerage operations/ maintenance of all the rest of cities would be took over by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board till March 31, 2015.
Local Bodies Minister said that handing over the operations to Water Supply and Sewerage Board has resulted in efficient service delivery and increase in revenue collection. He said the revenue receipt of these 37 cities in the last four months has increased from Rs. 149.07 lakh to Rs. 231.41 lakh whereas water supply connections has increased from 1,71,420 to 1,72,471 and Sewerage connections increased from 1,03,671 to 1,04,628.
