Muktsar, On his maiden visit to the state after assuming charge as Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president, Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today announced that the IYC would launch “Save Punjab” campaign against the menace of drugs.Warring was given a rousing reception by Congress activists. He was brought in a precession from Mandi Killianwali on the Haryana-Punjab border till his residence in Muktsar. He also held a roadshow in his constituency ( Gidderbaha).Talking to mediapersons, Warring said besides launching an awareness drive, the IYC would counsel addicts and take them to de-addiction centres.He cautioned the Centre against amending the Land Acquisition Bill, saying the IYC would launch a satyagrah from January 12 to 30 across the country to make the people aware of the “anti-people and anti-farmer” policies of the Modi government.Warring said that the SAD-BJP government had failed to curb the drug menace during its eight-year rule and was now blaming central forces.Warring said he favoured student elections in colleges and universities across the state. “Student elections provide new faces in politics. But owing to the vested interests of certain politicians, these elections are not being held in Punjab,” he said.
