VIGILANCE ARRESTS MANSA JAIL SUPERINTENDENT IN CORRUPTION CASE

Chandigarh, May 17: State Vigilance Bureau today arrested district Jail Superintendent Mansa Davinder Singh Bajwa in a corruption case from the jail premises. In this case the VB had already nabbed Jail Line Officer Sikander Singh Mann and prisoner Pawan Kumar Incharge of jail canteen red handed December 2017 whereas fourth accused Deputy Jail Supdt Gurjeet Singh Brar still at large.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau the accused jailer in connivance with jail officers Gurjeet Singh Brar, Sikander Singh Mann and prisoner Pawan Kumar were collecting huge money from prisoners to the tune of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 25,000 in lieu of changing their barracks/cells at their sweet will, allowing to use cell phones, intoxicants/drugs and meetings of their relatives without making entry to the jail register and giving relaxation from the manual work inside the jail.

In this case the VB had already arrested the accused Jail Line officer and prisoner Pawan Kumar while accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000/-cash and cheques bearing amount of Rs. 86,200 from the accused in December last and registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act against Jail Superintendent, Deputy Jail Superintendent, Jail Line Officer and prisoner at VB police station Bathinda.

He informed that during the investigation of the accused the Bureau has recovered a register having details of money collected from the prisoners and was maintained by the accused prisoner Pawan Kumar at the behest of deputy jail supdt. Accused Pawan Kumar has confessed to the vigilance that he was sharing the money with jail supdt and deputy jail supdt.

He added that it was also confirmed from the call details of accused prisoner that he was constantly in touch with the jailer and even called him on the day of trap by VB so as to allow him to collect bribe from complainant. He further said it has also came to light that the same mobile phone number was being used inside the jail premises by the prisoners in connivance with jail officers.
