Chandigarh, Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today hit out at the Parkash Singh Badal-government for its alleged inability to ensure adequate supply of urea to meet the growing demand of farmers during winter sowing season.
“Shortage of urea supply in Punjab will have a harmful impact on the sowing of wheat crop in the state,” the former Chief Minister of Punjab said.
“Farmers in all the villages are in tension as it is a matter of their bread and butter. It is a clear case of lack of foresight and inefficiency on the part of Badal government to tackle the problem of urea shortage in the state,” she said.
Bhattal said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should categorically clarify about the situation in regard to streamlining of supply of urea to farmers in Punjab.
“Shortage of urea supply to farmers is yet another example of Badal government’s inefficiency and absolute breakdown of state administration,” she said.
“Badal government has failed to protect the interests of farmers due to which there is a feeling of disillusionment and despondency among the farmers’ community,” Bhattal said.
The Congress leader further said that the Punjab government is busy organising Kabaddi matches instead of arranging urea.
“Instead of arranging urea, the Punjab government is busy in watching dance shows of actors and actresses by organising Kabaddi matches,” she said.
Bhattal said the Badal-government merely exists on paper and that the state administration has virtually collapsed.
“The present regime in the state which had made lofty claims that installation of Narendra Modi government at centre would open doors for the state in terms of economic well-being has fallen flat on its face,” she said.
Bhattal said that for even routine matters, Badal government has been forced to bend like a beggar before central government pertaining to matters concerning the interest and welfare of the state.
“The Badal government also had to make several pleas to central government for release of money amounting to Rs 15,000 crore to purchase the gunny bags to store the wheat in April,” she said.
