UNEMPLOYED LINEMEN NEED JOBS, NOT LATHIS: BAJWA

p44Chandigarh, August 2: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today strongly condemned the inhuman lathicharge against the unemployed linemen who were protesting yesterday outside the residence of the Finance Minister Mr Parminder Singh Dhindsa in Sangrur.

In a statement, Mr Bajwa said, “The continued indifference of the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal to genuine problems of the people is reinforcement of the perception among the people at large that he is least concerned about carrying out his responsibilities. It is the responsibility of the government to create jobs or avenues for self-employment. However, the ruling Badal family has a single point agenda and that is promotion of family business and that too at the cost of the state”.

He said the gravity of situation could be gauged from the fact that even families of the unemployed linemen were on protest. What was shocking that the wife of a protester too became unconscious during lathicharge. This was nothing but inhuman.

Mr Bajwa lambasted Mr Badal for adopting repressive measures to crush genuine struggle launched by various sections of society.

He advised the chief minister to go through his manifesto to know as to what was promised by this party before the Assembly elections and how many promises had been kept so far.

He charged the Akali Dal and its alliance partner, the BJP for totally betraying the people and backtracking from the promises made to them. He also took the BJP to task saying the party had failed to lobby with its own government at the centre to provide special relief to Punjab that was urgently needed.

Terming the alliance as opportunistic just for the sake of remaining in power, the PPCC chief said the state power had only been used for self-aggrandisement rather than the welfare of the people for which they would not forgive them in the next Assembly election.
