Mumbai: The changing equations between the estranged brothers was at display on Monday when Raj Thackeray joined his cousin Uddhav Thackeray to offer tribute to late Bal Thackeray.
The occasion was a function organised to mark the second death anniversary of the Sena patriarch where Raj joined Uddhav on the dais at the Bal Thackeray Smriti Udyan in Shivaji Park.
Importantly, Raj had skipped a similar event held last year.
Thousands of Shiv Sainiks are expected to visit the memorial today. Party officials estimate that over two lakh Sainiks will offer their tributes, besides people from different walks of life.
Both Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena have seen their political graph go on a slide after the assembly elections which saw BJP coming to power. While the Shiv Sena won 63 seats, MNS was reduced to just one seat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also paid tributes to Bal Thackeray.
“On Pujya Balasaheb Thackeray’s Punya Tithi, I salute the great man who always lived for the people & stood for their well-being,” Modi said in a tweet from Australia where he is on an official visit.
