Chandigarh, November 24: Challenging the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal to rebut Supreme Court’s irrefutable observation about the drug menace having spoiled an entire generation in rural Punjab, the state Congress Chief Minister Partap Singh Bajwa today said the use of narcotics including liquor had become part of the weaponry of the ruling party in its political arsenal. He asserted the issue of drug menace in Punjab was first raised by the Congress vice-president Mr Rahul Gandhi and the same had now been pointed out by the apex court in rather harsher way. At the same time he also reminded the Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi to keep his promise of eradicating the drug menace from Punjab or just walk out from the coalition. This is the right time to take a political divorce from the SAD.

Meanwhile referring to the sadbhawna rally S Partap Singh Bajwa said that It has become public as to how the people were mobilized for the Bathinda rally of the Akali Dal yesterday. People from the weaker strata were lured with money and liquor both of which were distributed in abundance. People openly carried cartons of ‘Gabhroo’ liquor and this so called Panthic government has much to explain about this modus operandi to exhibit it’s so called popularity.

Mr Bajwa dared Mr Badal to organize the next rally at Moga without the misuse of official machinery and money and liquor power so that the actual level of his and his family’s popularity could be tested. The real challenge for the Badal family would be to mobilize people from within Punjab for the so called Sadhbhavna rallies as the Bathinda rally turned into ‘spirited rally’ towards the end with open distribution of liquor.

Mr Bajwa alleged people were hired for the rally by paying anything from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per person besides liquor. People were ferried from Haryana and Rajasthan but the problem was this self-delusional politics would not come to the rescue of the Badal family.

He referred to the apex court observation stating an entire generation had been spoiled by the drug dealers in the state and this amounted to direct indictment of the state government that has turned into mafia government. It is too open a secret that the drug smugglers just cannot carry on their nefarious activities without political patronage from the ruling party and the names of the Akali ministers and former ministers whose names have been linked to drug smuggling is under investigation by the enforcement directorate.

He said Mr Gandhi had only expressed his serious concern about the rampant use of drugs by the youth in Punjab and now the apex court has taken a strong notice of the deteriorating situation.
