Tsonga cruises into second round

Shanghai, French tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga debuted on Monday at the Shanghai Masters with a comfortable win over Germany’s Florian Mayer. Tsonga managed to defeat Mayer 6-3, 6-2 in 71 minutes .
The Frenchman, ranked 13th in the world, will now face Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic in the second round.
The Shanghai Masters is the penultimate ATP World Tour Masters tournament of the year, and includes the world’s tennis stars, except Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori and Dominic Thiem.
Venus advances
hong kong: US tennis player Venus Williams kicked off her Hong Kong Open campaign in style by beating Japanese Risa Ozaki on Monday in the first round of the tournament. Williams, second-seeded, defeated her Japanese opponent 6-4, 6-1.
