OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has offered his congratulations to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.
Trudeau says Canada looks forward to working “very closely” with Trump, his administration and with the U.S. Congress in the coming years, including on issues like trade, investment, international peace and security.
He says the relationship between Canada and the U.S. serves as a model for the world.
Trudeau says the countries’ shared values, deep cultural ties and strong integrated economies will continue to provide the basis for advancing a “strong and prosperous” partnership.
He says Canada has “no closer friend, partner, and ally” than the U.S.
Trump claimed his election victory as America’s 45th president early Tuesday, after beating out Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
